Description
Mozart’s Serenade in C minor, K. 388, is a remarkable work that goes far beyond the usual light-hearted piece he would write under that title. Described as an ominous, dark-hued piece, this serenade is a highly dramatic work with many intricacies including a tour de force canon in the the third movement. Arrangements of operatic works for wind ensembles were a popular way of promoting and enjoying the operas of Mozart, Beethoven, and Rossini. Johann Nepomuk Wendt, an oboist of the royal court and opera orchestra in Vienna, created arrangements of several of Mozart’s operas including the Marriage of Figaro. Continuing the story of The Barber of Seville, The Marriage of Figaro recounts a day of madness in the palace of Count Almaviva. Enjoy Mozart’s incredibly beautiful and invigorating music.
